Princess and the Pea Auditions

Hi!

Thanks for your interest in our first ever LEAP Co-op Musical!  This production is for students in grades 3-12. No theater experience is necessary!  We will learn about theater along the way as we create a beautiful and memorable production!

My name is Sarah Mainardi, I am a certified music educator and homeschool mom!  I have taught music and theatre for over 20 years.  I studied music education in my undergrad and music performance for my master’s degree.  I taught K-8 classroom music in New York City prior to my daughter being born, staging Christmas pageants that included every student in the school, and full on musicals for 4th-8th graders, as well as drama clubs for younger students.  In 2006 we moved to Toledo and I directed middle school plays at Toledo Christian for two years, and took on the role of musical director for their high school musicals which I continue to do every spring.  I also teach piano and voice lessons in my home while homeschooling my eight year old daughter and caring for our three year old as well.

This year we will be presenting, “The Princess and the Pea” a musical retelling of the traditional tale by Andy Beck and Brian Fisher. “Eager-to-wed Prince Nicholas narrates the story of a classic fairy tale kingdom anxious for his royal nuptials. But there’s a problem . . . overbearing Queen Minerva insists upon testing any girl who wants to marry her son, and not one is able to gain her approval. King Reginald loses his patience, the trusty Court Jester searches for the right bride, and an even-tempered chamber maid comforts her childhood friend, the Prince. Will Princess Cecily be up to the challenge? Or Griselda? Perhaps Princess Jillian can pass the big test. You won’t believe the shocking ending to this tangled tale. An irresistible, traditional-sounding score and a witty script bring the satisfying story to life with a wide variety of characters to develop. Be sure to say “I do” to this traditional tale told anew.”

Auditions will consist of singing a prepared song of your choice (1 minute or less) a capella or with a karoake track (no vocals-must be able to play on your own device) and reading a mini monologue of your choice (1 minute or less).  Any song will do, even Happy Birthday.  The monologue can simply be a few lines from a favorite play or movie or a poem.  Memorization is optional.

Auditions will be held Friday, December 2nd beginning at 1:00 pm and ending at 3:00pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (112 E. Wayne St, Maumee). Sign up for a time slot at the Sign Up Genius link.

Make Up Auditions and Call backs will be Monday, December 5th from 10:00am-12:00 pm. Students who need to attend call backs will be notified.

The general rehearsal schedule is attached.  Your child may not have to attend the full length of every rehearsal.  It will depend on their part.  A detailed schedule will be released at the Cast Meeting where the cast will be announced.  Conflicts will be accommodated as much as possible if listed on audition form. Costumes will be provided as much as we are able, but inevitably there will be some items that each student will need to provide.

The cost to participate in the production is $100/student, $80 for siblings, due in full at the January 6th rehearsal.
